Beyond Boundaries : A Magical Evening

Beyond Boundaries : A Magical Evening

BEYOND BOUNDARIES : A MAGICAL EVENING

As promised, this week I’m delighted to share with you photos of my ‘Beyond Boundaries’ exhibition, where I was thrilled to host a community of wonderful people who attended.  As I embark on the next chapter of my life where I will be moving to a new city, ‘Beyond Boundaries’ was a celebration of this past phase.  The exhibition consisted of two main bodies of artwork, both of which were sparked by the time I spent in Amman, Jordan.

 ‘The Table’:
This was a body of artwork inspired when I moved to Jordan, and reconnected with objects from my childhood, which my parents had kept for me.  In a time where ‘stuff’ is becoming more cumbersome, and I frequently find the need to “detox” my space, I find myself asking ‘what is the value of these objects?’ They carry a value beyond a materialistic one, yet they are, ironically, material.  This series of artwork celebrates these objects & their memories – from old sandal buckles to swatch-watch cases and earrings from the 80s & 90s – mixed with more recent items I found on my dressing table.
‘The Table’ is also a central element in many cultures, and in a wide range of human interactions; diverse forms, vibrant colours, and interesting compositions found on a variety of tables have been an endless source of inspiration throughout my work.

‘Beyond Boundaries’
Having lived in many places around the world, from the Middle East, to Europe, to North America, I am often struck at the similarities that unite us – as people, as cultures – and yet, at the small differences that make “the spice of life”.
Urban scapes are such a brilliant reflection of culture, in that everything combines: history mixes with contemporary culture, mixes with a cross-section of people, and rich colours, street scents and flavours are woven in.  Love them or not, these create a rich woven textile that tells the story of people in a place.
‘Beyond Boundaries’ looks at the urban fabric of various cities i have fallen in love with, and is my celebration of world colour, pattern, and texture, mixed with human.
‘Downtown Amman’ is the first series in this collection.

Without further ado, I’ll leave you to enjoy the photographs, and thank one more time each and every person who attended – You made the evening magical!

 Here’s to a beautiful Life.
