inspirations : Cairo

INSPIRATIONS : CAIRO

Cairo : The capital of Egypt, and largest city in the Middle East.
< Arabic : ‘Al-Qahira’, meaning ‘The Defeater’ >

Last week, I took an impromptu trip to Cairo, for an intense, 2-day trip.
Some of my stops included the infamous Tahrir Square, The River Nile, The Citadel of Cairo, the Mohammad Ali Mosque, and the market at Khan El-Khalili… The Egyptian Museum, home to an incredible collection of mummies, richly adorned tombs and artefacts from Ancient Egypt, was the highlight of my trip.  And, of course, no trip to Cairo would be complete without a visit to the Pyramids and the Sphinx.

It was far from a ‘relaxing vacation’ – the city is extremely congested, smelly, and dirty.  Yet, looking at the photographs I took, there is an undeniable beauty, a richness that has been imprinted long ago, and over 4000 years later, the spirit remains…
